The Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment is developing a national Clean Air Strategy for the Republic of Ireland. The proposed Clean Air Strategy will provide the strategic policy framework necessary to identify and promote the integrated measures across government policy that are required to reduce air pollution and promote cleaner air while delivering on wider national objectives.
IPH welcomed the opportunity to respond to the NI Department for Infrastructure on the Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017. IPH believe a more holistic approach to health in EIA may enhance partnership work with public health colleagues and prevent duplication by reducing the need for separate health impact assessments.
The Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government (ROI) has opened a consultation on the National Planning Framework. The framework will be of relevance to place-based aspects of public policy and investment, including areas relevant to social determinants of health, health behaviours and health services. The consultation closes on 16 March.
