Open Access (OA) is the immediate, freely available, online access to research outputs. These outputs include peer-reviewed journal articles, conference papers and datasets of various types. The restrictions to use, commonly imposed by publisher copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control do not apply.
IPH are publishing this document as a seminar takes place in Dublin as part of Open Access Week, a global event that provides an opportunity to learn more about the benefits of Open Access. It’s co-hosted by the Institute of Public Health (IPH) and the Regional Library Dr. Steevens Hospital, HSE. The event will benefitting those working in the health sector including: health professionals, public health doctors, managers, policy makers, researchers, and information workers from organisations such as the Health Service Executive; Department of Health; Voluntary health sector, Irish health agencies, academic health sector. This Open Access Statement highlights IPH commitment to an Open Access policy and outlines how it implements that policy. IPH is committed to promoting free, unrestricted, timely online access to its publications and other information for the benefit of public health. IPH believes that the current unequal access to information, particularly amongst community and voluntary sector organisations working with disadvantaged groups, contributes to existing social and health inequalities. Making information more broadly available will make a significant contribution to tackling these inequalities.
