IPH wishes to recruit for an ICT & Web Assistant.
The Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) promotes cooperation for public health on the island of Ireland. The IPH has 3 key areas of work:
• Strengthening public health intelligence
• Building public health capacity
• Policy and programme development
The ICT & Web Assistant will assist the Web & IT Officer in the support and management of the IPH corporate IT networks, management of IPH web servers and support and maintenance of IPH websites (corporate website, The Health Well and its Hubs and web groups, and other supported websites).
This position will be line managed by the Institute’s Web & IT Officer
The position will involve:
ICT network, desktop and audio-visual support
• Support the Web and IT Officer in the management and maintenance of the corporate IT network and servers ensuring system updates, backup routines, anti-virus updates, etc. are carried out
• Support the Web and IT Officer in the provision of a desktop IT support service and deliver training to IPH staff and other stakeholders when required
• Support the Web and IT Officer in the provision of audio visual functions relating to internal and external events including audio and video recording of events
• Undertake any additional ICT related tasks as required
Routine website and web server support and maintenance
• Maintain web and database servers ensuring that system updates, anti virus updates and backup routines run effectively
• Support the monitoring, analysis and reporting of website use
• Manage and monitor the availability and security of the web servers and websites, applying system updates and website code updates when applicable
• Provide a website content management system support service to IPH staff and external stakeholders (including preparation and uploading of website content and associated files as required)
• Monitor all content feeds from partner websites and content affiliate websites to ensure they run successfully
Outline website design and development using existing infrastructure (if appropriate)
● Design and development of small scale websites
● Design and development of online web groups using existing infrastructure
● Design and prepare web graphics and other multimedia resources when required
● Make adjustments and enhancements to websites under supervision from the Web and IT Officer
General
● Represent the Institute at meetings and conferences.
● Participate in The Health Well Operational Team
Essential criteria:
● Working knowledge and experience of Windows server and desktop environments and associated software including Microsoft Office.
● Previous experience of providing IT desktop and network support in a multi-location organization
● Previous experience of providing audio visual support at internal and external events
● Previous experience of hosting PHP/MySQL applications using Apache web server and Linux operating systems
● Previous experience in the preparation of website usage statistical reports
● Previous experience in the use of website content management systems
● Knowledge of SQL relational databases, specifically MySQL
● Ability to design and produce website ready graphics and multimedia
● Experience of a range of web programming and scripting languages
● Excellent communication skills.
● Excellent interpersonal skills.

● Good problem solving abilities.
● Commitment to the aims of the Institute and North-South working.
Desirable criteria
● Knowledge and experience of Microsoft SQL Server
● Knowledge and experience with Drupal 6 and 7 Platform and CMS
● Knowledge and experience in website development using PHP, HTML5, CSS and a range of JavaScript frameworks
● Specific knowledge and experience of using the Drupal organic groups and domain suites of modules
● Interest in and one year’s experience of website design and development
Experience required
● Two years experience of managing web server/website hosting environments
● Two years experience of providing IT client and network support in a multi-location organization
Location
The Institute has offices in Belfast and Dublin and this position will be located primarily in the Belfast office. Some travel between the two offices will be required.
Terms & Conditions
• This post is being offered on a full-time permanent basis
• Remuneration is in the range of £16,005-£22,407 depending on experience
